Information

Throughout most of its history, New York has served as the front door to America for those immigrating from other nations. It’s claimed that 40% of us have at least one ancestor who entered this country through New York. If New York is the front door to America, then Lady Liberty, from her position in New York Harbor, stands on the front porch. Although the sculptor had no thought of his statue being a symbol of welcome, that was precisely how it was seen by the millions of immigrants that passed it as they arrived in this country. These poetic words of Emma Lazarus merely served to ratify this new role for Lady Liberty.

“Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free…”

It is the diversity that these immigrants brought to America that has made us great and it is diversity that will preserve that greatness. On this page you will find resources that will help you better understand the opportunities we have today to welcome people from all races, nationalities, cultures and religions as they seek a safer place to live.
